Wondering what to do with that old cellphone or desk computer you no longer use? You have many options today including selling it, donating it or throwing it away. But if you throw it away, make sure you take it to an e-cycle center. E-cycling is the term used for recycling of electronics which takes parts of the item and reuses it instead of dumping it in a landfill. Electronics have potentially harmful chemicals that can seep into the ground and should never be taken to a landfill.

In addition to electronics, batteries can also be hazardous to the environment and should never be thrown in with the regular trash. This includes small batteries for electronics and large car batteries. Many stores that sell car batteries will take your old car battery and recycle it for you.

You can also contact your local community center and ask where you can dispose of hazardous waste so your battery or electronic item can be disposed of properly.

Taking responsibility for your hazardous waste goes far towards creating a greener earth and makes the environment safer.
